A Call for Inclusive Peace and a Democratic Future in Afghanistan
Five years after 15 August 2021, the people of Afghanistan continue to face political uncertainty, economic hardship, restrictions on fundamental freedoms, and the exclusion of women and girls from education, employment, and public life. The Afghanistan Peace Committee believes that lasting peace cannot be achieved through force, exclusion, or the concentration of power. Afghanistan needs an inclusive political process that reflects the voices and aspirations of all its citizens, including women, youth, ethnic and religious communities, civil society, political actors, and Afghans living inside and outside the country. The rights of women and girls must remain at the centre of Afghanistan’s future. Their access to education, employment, freedom of movement, and meaningful participation in public and political life are fundamental rights and essential conditions for peace, stability, and national development. We call for constructive national dialogue leading to accountable institutions, representative governance, the rule of law, social justice, and equal citizenship. Afghanistan’s diversity must be recognized as a national strength and protected through mutual respect, political inclusion, and peaceful cooperation.
The Afghanistan Peace Committee urges Afghan political and civil society actors, regional countries, and the international community to support a credible, inclusive, and Afghan-led process aimed at achieving a peaceful political settlement. On this occasion, we reaffirm our commitment to an Afghanistan where every citizen can live with dignity, security, equality, and hope.
