Excellency Mr. Guterres:
With reference to my letter of November 28, 2023, addressed to Your Excellency, I wish to avail myself of the opportunity to extend my deepest and sincere gratitude, on behalf of the members of the Committee for Peace in Afghanistan (CPA), and the vast majority of Afghan people, and congratulate you on your tactful and skillful diplomacy to facilitate the passage of resolution 2721 (2023) which among other important features requests Your Excellency to appoint a Special Envoy with robust expertise on human rights and gender for Afghanistan. In my humble opinion, the passage of this historic resolution under the current tumultuous world environment is indeed a great achievement worthy of inclusion in the annals of world history. Most Afghans, especially the professionals and the diaspora, are gravely concerned about the situation in Afghanistan and have been actively engaged in promoting peace and stability for their homeland. This has been particularly true for CPA as our entire mission has been promoting the peace agenda and thank God, in our assessment, CPA’s efforts have had a significant impact on this complex process.
To achieve the lofty goal of peace and stability for Afghanistan, however, we firmly believe that the consensus of Afghans as well as the world community is essential. To this end, we declare our commitment to work side-by-side with your Special Envoy and other team members. We are looking forward to meeting Your Excellency’s team to discuss areas of cooperation.
